Dr. Akın Özdemir has been serving as a faculty member in the Department of Labour Economics and Industrial Relations within the Faculty of Political Sciences at Sakarya University since 2012. He completed his undergraduate studies in 2010 and his master’s degree in 2014 in the same field, and was awarded his PhD in 2022 with a dissertation examining quality of life in smart cities. His doctoral studies were supported for 48 months under the TÜBİTAK 2211-A National PhD Scholarship Program. During his doctoral training, Dr. Özdemir conducted research as a visiting scholar for six months at the University of Foggia and for twelve months at Eindhoven University of Technology. His scholarly work is situated within the broader framework of social policy, with particular emphasis on smart cities, local governance, labour markets, and gender. In this context, he has published extensively in peer-reviewed national and international academic journals. In recent years, Dr. Özdemir has served both as principal investigator and researcher in various scientific research projects. As of December 2024, he has assumed the position of Deputy Director at the Sakarya Economic and Social Researh Center.
